COMMENTS: GERMAN BOOTLEG IN DELUXE GATEFOLD B&W COVER. ALWAYS THOUGHT TO BE A COPY OF 'PINK FLOYD' (1,2,3,4) THIS IS IN FACT PRESSED FROM THE SAME PLATES. THE ORIGINAL 1,2,3,4 PRESS HAD EACH OF THE 1 DIGIT NUMBERS ON THE MATRIX REPEATED OPPOSITE EACH OTHER. (ie. TWO 1's ON SIDE ONE - TWO 2's ON SIDE TWO ETC.) THE M502 MATRIX INCORPORATES ONE OF THESE NUMBERS INTO THE MATRIX NUMBER WHILST THE OTHER IS STILL VISIBLE AS A SINGLE NUMBER ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE RUNOUT GROOVES. THESE HANDWRITTEN NUMBERS ARE IDENTICAL TO THE ORIGINAL 1,2,3,4 RELEASE. WE CAN ONLY SPECULATE WHAT THE REASON FOR CHANGING THE MATRIX NUMBER WAS - MAYBE THE PLATES WERE SOLD OR STOLEN. THIS WOULD EXPLAIN WHY THE QUALITY OF THE COVERS WAS MUCH WORSE (IN TERMS OF PRINT DETAIL) THAN THE ORIGINAL 1,2,3,4 PRESS - AND ALSO MAYBE WHY THE SOUND QUALITY WAS WORSE ON LATER COPIES - THESE PLATES OBVIOUSLY PRESSED A LOT OF RECORDS! OTHER NEWER PLATES MAY HAVE BEEN MADE AND USED LATER BUT THIS IS UNCONFIRMED AT THE MOMENT. RE-ISSUED MANY TIMES WITH 'PINK FLOYD' AND 'PINK FLOYD LIVE' ADDED TO (NON LAMINATED) FRONT COVER. SOME WITH TRACK LISTING ON REAR COVER (THERE WERE TWO DIFFERENT VARIATIONS IN THE PRINT TYPE - THE PICTURE ON THE RIGHT IS THE RARER OF THE TWO). PRINT QUALITY NOT AS FINE AS ORIGINAL ISSUE AND SOUND QUALITY NOT AS GOOD WITH SOME PRESSINGS HAVING DISTORTION DURING LOUD PASSAGES OF MUSIC. THE MOST COMMON PRESSING HAS DELUXE YELLOW LABELS. STILL A GREAT BOOTLEG AND HARD TO FIND IN GOOD CONDITION. THIS VERSION OFTEN SELLS FOR HIGH PRICES ALTHOUGH IT'S RELATIVELY EASY TO FIND COMPARED TO THE ORIGINAL. IT SEEMS THAT SOME COLLECTORS DO NOT DIFFERENTIATE BETWEEN THIS AND THE ORIGINAL (1,2,3,4) PRESSING. ORCHESTRA AND CHOIR ON 'ATOM HEART MOTHER'.

FURTHER COMMENTS: SEVERAL PEOPLE HAVE REPORTED OWNING THE LATER (M502) COVER WITH 1,2,3,4 DISCS ON PLAIN BLACK OR WHITE LABELS SO OBVIOUSLY THESE WERE EARLY M502 PRESSINGS DONE BEFORE THE MATRIX WAS CHANGED.
